Spring gardening is upon us as the warmer temperatures are here to stay. There are a few things to keep in mind as we look towards planting our spring organics. When we make a planting bed next to the foundation, it is important to make sure that the bed slopes away from the house so water will not collect against the foundation. If possible, avoid planting right up against the foundation. The root system of some vegetation can damage the house and the plant itself can damage the cladding of the home. If it is a plant that will grow tall, one has to consider the canopy of the plant and how it will affect the house in years to come. One has to remember that vegetation can hold moisture against the house and is also an access point for pests to get into the house.
